Social Protection

Many elders lose the love and care of their family life due to various reasons. Increasing number of old age homes could not be the solution to restore the respect, recognition and affection of the dejected elders. Strengthening of existing system and practice at community level along with the services of government machinery is the right approach towards ensuring the social protection of the aged. EFEF facilitate ESHG's and their federation in looking after the programme of care and support of 236 destitute elders at their villages itself.

Innovation in strengthening the involvement of community in the welfare of the aged was achieved by the district level federation of Vedaranyam. Three individuals of kind hearted in Vedaranyam volunteered themselves to adopt abandoned elders as their parents. They provide basic requirement to these destitute elders. The miserable pain of loneliness and insecurity has been removed from the face of destitute elders. The local community of Vedaranyam is very much responsive to the need and about 11 individual of kind- hearted came forward to look after the aged.




Milestone


Initiated a novel social protection scheme “Vamsavalli” through which Rs.7500/- given for funeral expense of a member.

Two destitute elders have be referred to Thamaraikulam elders' village where an integral care support and services are given to them.

“Elders Help Line” is launched to address the complaints of the elders & provide viable solution.

EFEF serves as a member in the district level social protection committee at Cuddalore.

Facilitated 2192 elderly to receive old age pension from Govt.
